GOOD CAUSES FOUNDATION ORGANIZES MEDICAL OUTREACH FOR SOMANYA
The Good Causes Foundation, the charity arm of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) in partnership with Lafiya Clinic organized a health screening exercise for the people of Somanya in the Yilo Krobo District.
Over 200 people, comprising the young, old and aged in Somanya and other communities in the Yilo-Krobo district in the Eastern region turned up to be screened for various health related ailments.
Traditional rulers from the community and other neighbouring communities were not left out as they also took turns to go through the screening process the health screening exercise began at 10:00 am, with the people seated patiently under tents waiting to take turns to go through the process.
The people were screened for diseases such as Blood Pressure (BP), Diabetes, Hepatitis B and Hypertension. The Coordinator of the Good Causes Foundation, NLA, Ms. Amma Frimpong said the health screening was the second of a nationwide health screening exercise to be organized by the Good Causes Foundation.
She further added that it also afforded the NLA the opportunity to improve its relations with the community and educate them on its activities and operations, while advising parents to ensure that their children below 18 years did not get involved in staking lotto.
The medical Team carried out general consultations, eye screening exercises, laboratory works, ultra sound services, wound dressing among others. Patients were given free medicated spectacles. They were also issued with NHIS Cards.
Medical officers took the opportunity to educate the people on some health issues and some diseases that had been daignosed.
A Physician Assistant at the Lafiya Clinic, Ms. Clara Nyarko said she observed that some of the people were suffering from hypertension and were resorting to the use of herbal medicine for treatment.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Yilo-Krobo, Mr Eric Tetteh lauded the NLA for the exercise and thanked the Authority for giving back to the society
The Assembly, he opined, was committed to ensuring that the health of the people in the district is improved through consistent education on sanitation.
He therefore advised the people to observe good sanitation practices such as constant cleaning of the environment, regular exercising and a healthy diet.
